Why do most bookmark apps require an account?
Their business model is cloud-hosted sync between devices. Once your data lives on their servers, an account is the identity that ties one device to another. Backpockets: Read It Later App doesn't sync through a cloud, everything stays on your Mac, so there's no reason to ask for an identity.

If there's no account, how do I get support?
Email hello@backpockets.space directly. Your license key (from Gumroad) is enough for us to help with anything license-related. Everything else — bugs, feature requests, needs no identity at all.
What about updates and licensing?
The app checks a public update endpoint (no user data attached). The license key sits in a local file on your Mac; the app validates it locally without a server round-trip.
Is my data really not tracked?
Correct. There's no analytics SDK, no telemetry beacon, and no crash reporter that phones home by default. If a future release adds any of these, it will be opt-in and documented up front.
