Privacy

Backpockets: Read It Later App is built so your reading history never needs to leave your Mac. No account. No cloud library. No analytics SDK.

What stays on your device

Saves, page text, embeddings, search queries, and settings live in a SQLite database under your user Library folder on macOS. Time Machine backs it up like any other local file.

What we do not collect

We do not run an account system. We do not sync your library to a Backpockets: Read It Later App server. We do not sell data. Optional third-party AI providers (for example OpenRouter) are only used if you paste your own API key for extraction features; that traffic goes to the provider you chose, not to a Backpockets: Read It Later App cloud library.

Backpacks for iPhone

The iPhone app has no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Your saved links, screenshots, the text read from screenshots, and your search index are stored only on your phone, in the app and its share extension. Nothing is uploaded to a Backpockets server, and there is no cloud sync.

When you save a link, the app contacts that site from your phone to get its title and preview image. For YouTube, Instagram, and X links it asks those services for the same public details. To show a site icon, the app sends only the site's domain name (for example example.com) to Google's favicon service. No account, device identifier, or the full link is sent. Text in screenshots is read on your device with Apple's Vision framework and is not sent anywhere.

You can export your library as a zip file from Settings, and deleting the app removes its data from your phone. Questions: amanjai03@gmail.com
